Young Veggie Chat posting guidelines

Forum moderating

This is a fully moderated forum. We hope it will be a place for users to support one another, discuss issues relating to vegetarianism, and even have the occasional debate. In order for Young Veggie Chat to be successful, we ask that you stick to the following guidelines when creating a post. Any posts that stray outside of these boundaries will not be approved and will not appear on Young Veggie Chat.

Vegetarian Society staff will only post comments on the forums to correct a misconception or to offer specific information.

As Young Veggie Chat is moderated during business hours, it may take up to 72 hours for posts to appear on Young Veggie Chat. If you have followed all of the guidelines below and your post has not appeared, and you would like to know why, email education@vegsoc.org.

Content - general

Private information should remain private. As this is a forum by and for young people, all posts, with the exception of those from Vegetarian Society staff, are listed anonymously. A user may choose to include his or her first name in the body of a post in order to personalise it. However, any other personal details (eg surname, address, email address, phone number, etc) will not be permitted. This is for the protection of all users.

Rude, abusive or offensive language is not acceptable. Swearing is generally not appropriate, and messages including language that is offensive to particular groups or individuals will not be approved.

Thread titles that include mild bad language will not be approved. Thread titles are picked up easily by search engines so even if the context makes the title innocent we will remove it to protect the reputation of the Vegetarian Society and this website.

Crude, racist, or sexist postings are not acceptable and will not be approved.

Personal complaints and grievances against individuals must not be posted on these forums.

Random links to other websites will not be approved. Please do not post a link without explaining where it goes, and the sort of content it links to. Any links to websites deemed to be inappropriate (against these guidelines) will be removed.

Political propaganda must not be included. Vegetarian Society forums are not here to promote any political opinion, and as a charity we cannot provide a platform for political parties – however closely their policies may be aligned with issues relating to vegetarianism. We recognise that political decisions may trigger a genuine thread of interest to the vegetarian community, but please refrain from promoting or condemning any specific political position.

Content – Promotion, research and advertising

Forums are not a cheap form of advertising. We don’t allow any form of commercial promotion or advertising on these forums, including posting links to commercial websites.

Market research is not permitted, however project questionnaires from students are allowed.. Threads asking for feedback on business ideas, or threads that are intended to carry out market research, are not allowed

Complaints about third party businesses are not appropriate. Please don’t post a public complaint about a business that you have a grievance with. The Vegetarian Society cannot afford to be held legally responsible for libel, so even if you feel your complaint is justified please don’t air it here - follow the advice on our Consumer Support pages.

Posting style

UPPERCASE please use this sparingly. It looks like you’re shouting and is also difficult to read.

Unclear thread titles – please try to relate your title to the post you’ve written so people know what to expect.

Hijacking threads – please don’t try and change the subject of a thread. Instead, start a new one with a relevant title so people know what to expect and can search for relevant topics.
