Fish Campaign
Have you helped to promote our Fish Free Friday campaign yet?
Whichever way you cut it vegetarians don't eat fish! Fish may not appear as cute and cuddly as young lambs, however they do feel pain and they do suffer. The fishing industry is responsible for some of the most environmentally damaging practices affecting our seas and oceans today.
Fishing is threatening the world’s populations of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) and overfishing has left species including tuna, plaice, monkfish and cod in danger. Fishing also affects other wildlife such as seals, birds, turtles, mink and otters, along with coral reefs and aquatic plants. The worldwide demand for fish continues to rise and its impact is getting worse. To find out more click here or to order free campaign resources click here.

Just Desserts
If you ever find yourself in a restaurant or cafe that doesn't label whether their puddings are suitable for vegetarians, or even labels them misleadingly, then perhaps you need our Just Dessert cards!
The Butcher’s Cat
No more pussy-footing around, the Butcher’s Cat, our new animal welfare campaign, has been officially launched! The cat is definitely out of the bag.
By providing information and challenging perceptions we’re aiming to make people think about why we make pets out of some animals and minced meat out of others. We’re hoping that the more people know about meat, the less likely they will be to eat it!
Free campaign postcards are available and posters can be downloaded from the “free stuff” section of www.butcherscat.com. Spread the word… why not send the link and hand out postcards to your family, friends and classmates? Perhaps order a larger batch of postcards and distribute them to your local library, doctors, dentists and shops.
Our new YouTube
channel will be hosting light-hearted, thought-provoking short films,
including our latest release – “Cooking Kitty”,
which is directly related to the Butcher’s Cat campaign.
Environment Campaign
Our environment campaign focuses on the
ways that vegetarianism can help reduce your environmental impact.
By not
eating meat you can
help reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, help conserve water and also help land
conservation.
As the world’s population continues to grow, our requirement for food will also increase. Raising cattle is one of the most damaging components of agriculture. They cause the most environmental damage of any non-human species through over-grazing, soil erosion, desertification and tropical deforestation for ranches, in addition to their gaseous emissions and manure products.
Diet is an important tool in working to achieve environmental sustainability.

Parmesan Campaign
Parmesan has to be made using calf rennet and is definitely not suitable for vegetarians!
We’ve produced a set of small "Say Cheese!" cards which can be given to shops, cafes and restaurants that are using Parmesan in their products. These cards explain that Parmesan isn’t vegetarian and suggests alternatives to keep their veggie customers happy.
Please help spread the word. Each sheet contains 6 of the cards. You can see them here and order them here.
If you have distributed any Say Cheese cards please tell us who you've given/sent them to and what the response was via saycheese@vegsoc.org.
There are currently two veggie alternatives to Parmesan approved by the Vegetarian Society: Bookham’s Not Just a Pasta Cheese and Parmazano.
If you’re really into cheese you can find out more information from our fact sheet!
